Japanese Woodblock Print Hiroshige Tokaido Fifty-three Stations Takamizawa Printmaker (27)
This is a very beautiful and romantic Japanese woodblock print from the famous series of “Tokaido Fifty-three Stations” from the famous Edo artist Hiroshige Utagawa (1797-1858) published by the famous Takamizawa printmaker made in Showa Era (1925-1978) IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. This woodblock print is a classical representation of Hiroshige’s mastery of romantic scenery of Japanese in Edo Era. This woodblock print is from my family seven-decade collection of Japanese woodblock prints and Asian Art. Print Size is 16 x 10 3/4 inches. The artist’s signature and publisher’s chop mark are close to the middle right edge of the print while the titles of the series and name of this print and the chop mark of the place are close to the upper left corner of the print. There is a censor seal in the lower left border while the publisher Takamizawa chop mark and carver and printer’s chop marks are in the back of the print. The colors, which are vivid and vibrant, are in layers on the original Japanese Washi paper. This woodblock print is not attached to any backing paper or cardboard and strong ink bleeding can be seen through the back of the original Japanese Mulberry paper. This woodblock print is IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. It is hard to find a Hiroshige’s work in the public nowadays and it is definitely an incredible piece for collecting.
