Orig. Japanese Woodblock Print Triptych Tsukioka Yoshitoshi Tagoshima Battle (3) Saigo Takamori Meiji 10 (1877)
This is on original Japanese woodblock print triptych of “Tagoshima Battles, Saigo Takamori Watching the Battle” by the Famous woodblock artist Yoshitoshi Tsukioka (1839-1892), made in Meiji 10, which is 1877. This is a very colorful and beautiful original Japanese woodblock triptych about 142 years old. It depicts a battle between Takoshima rebels and government military forces during the Meiji Period. The three panels of this triptych are separate. The size of each panel of this triptych is 14 ¼ x 9 1/4 inches. The artist’s signature and his chop mark, the publisher’s name and address, publication date Meiji 10 and a price tag then (six cents) are at the lower left corner of the left panel. The colors, which are vivid and vibrant, are in layers on the print. The triptych is attached to a very thin original Japanese Washi backing paper to prevent it from tearing and forming wormholes. Except for a very light vertical crease about half inch away from the right edge of the left panel, which has been fixed by the thin original Japanese Washi paper, this ORIGINAL woodblock print triptych is in good condition. It is hard to find such a beautiful and special original Japanese woodblock print triptych signed by the famous Meiji woodblock print master Tsukioka Yoshitoshi in the public nowadays. This ORIGINAL woodblock print triptych is definitely an incredible piece for collecting.
