A Great Orig Japanese Woodblock Print Wata Sanzo LIMIT No. ORIGINAL EDITION Sumo Wrestling Kyoto Hanga Printmaker Showa 30 (1955)
This is a very beautiful, special, LIMITED No. 12, Original Japanese Shin Hanga woodblock print “Sumo Wrestling” from the rare Series "Showa Professional Description" signed by the famous Japanese Shin Hanga woodblock print Master Wata Sanzo (1883 - 1968) carrying the ORIGINAL EDITION MARK published by Kyoto Hanga Printmaker made in January Showa 30 (1955) IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. This is an original woodblock print about 65 years old. This woodblock print is from my family seven-decade Japanese woodblock prints and Asian Arts collections. The size of this ORIGINAL woodblock print is 17 x 14 inches. The artist's signature, his chop mark and the title of this print “Sumo Wrestling” are at the upper left corner of the print while the series name, publication date January Showa 30 (1955), ORIGINAL EDITION CHOP MARK, publisher’s name and chop mark, LIMITED-NUMBER 12, and carver and printer’s chop seals are in the left border. The colors, which are vivid and vibrant, are in layers. Four borders are intact. This woodblock print is not attached to any backing paper or cardboard and strong ink bleeding can be seen through the back of the original Japanese Washi mulberry paper.
