A Great Orig Japanese Woodblock Print Triptych Utagawa Kokunimasa (Ryua) Russo-Japan War Naval Engagement outside Port Arthur Meiji 37 1904 (4)
This is a very beautiful, colorful, and rare original Japanese woodblock print triptych “Naval Engagement outside Port Arthur during the 1904 Russo-Japan War” from the rare Russo-Japan War Series signed by the famous Meiji woodblock print master Utagawa Kokunimasa (Ryua) (1874-1944), made in Meiji 37, which is 1904. This is an original woodblock print about 120 years old describing the naval engagement between Japan empirical navy and Russian Czar empire navy outside port Arthur Manchuria on February 8th 1904. This ORIGINAL woodblock print TRIPTYCH is from my family seven-decade Japanese woodblock prints and Asian Art collection. Three panels are separate. The size of each panel is 9 1/2 x 13 3/4 inches. The artist’s signature and his chop mark are at the lower right corner of the right panel while the title of this original woodblock print triptych is at the upper right corner of the right panel. The colors, which are vivid and vibrant, are in layers on the print. The triptych is attached to a thin original Japanese Washi backing paper to protect it from bending and damage but ink bleeding through can still be seen from the back of original Japanese Washi paper. Except for a vertical crease at about ½ inch away from the left edge of the right and middle panel, which has been fixed by the backing Washi paper, and a ½ inch brown cover at the left edge of the left panel, this ORIGINAL woodblock print triptych is in good condition.
