Great Orig Japanese Woodblock Print Masao Ebina Genji Hana no En 1953
This is a very beautiful and rare original Japanese woodblock print “Hana no En” from the Series “The Fifty-four Love Stories of Genji Monogatari” signed by the famous Taisho/Showa woodblock print artist Masao Ebina (Active mid 20th century) published by Yamada Shoin, made in 1953 IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. This is an original woodblock print about 65 years old. This woodblock print is a part of a large number of Asian art and Japanese woodblock print collections in my family. The Tale of Genji (The Genji Monogatari) is a great classic of Japanese literature. It was written in the first years of the 11th century by a lady at court, Murasaki Shikibu, and runs to 1200 pages in English translation. This original woodblock print is from a set of fifty-four prints, which only published 200 sets total in 1953 that are very hard to find today. Masao Ebina is a popular woodblock print artist in Taisho/Showa period. His information and the price of his work can be found at most well-known galleries. The size of this woodblock print is 12 3/4 x 9 1/4 inches. The artist’s chop mark is at the lower left corner of this woodblock print while the title of the print “Hana no En” is at the upper right corner of the print. The colors, which are vivid and vibrant, are in layers on the print, and ink bleeding through can be seen from the back of the print. This woodblock print is not attached to any backing paper or cardboard. This original woodblock is IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.
