Orig Japanese woodblock print LIMITED# PENCIL SIGN Aoyama Black Albatross

This is an Extra LARGE, very beautiful and rare LIMITED NUMBER (72/100) ORIGINAL Japanese woodblock print masterpiece “Black Albatross” PENCIL SIGNED by the famous Showa Sosaku Hanga woodblock print master Aoyama Masaharu (Seiji) (1893-1969), made in the Showa Era IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. This is an original woodblock print signed by Aoyama Masaharu (Seiji).  This woodblock print is one of the core collections of a large number of Asian art and Japanese woodblock print collections in my family. We are gradually selling them. Masaharu Aoyama was born in the Saitama prefecture in 1893. He had studied traditional ink painting at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts. Aoyama participated in the official Teiten exhibitions with his ink paintings. As a printmaker he was close to the SOSAKU HANGA art movement. Many of his woodblock prints were self-carved and self-printed.  Information on and prices for Aoyama’s woodblock prints can be easily found on the Internet. The size of this woodblock print is 17 x 12 inches, which is larger than the traditional Shin Hanga woodblock prints. The artist’s chop mark is at the lower left corner of this woodblock print. The artist’s PENCIL SIGNATURE “M. Aoyama” and the PENCIL SIGNED LIMITED NUMBER of the print “72/100”, which means the 72th print out of 100 prints” are in the bottom border. All four borders are intact.  The woodblock print is not attached to any backing paper or cardboard and strong ink bleeding can be seen through the back of the original Japanese mulberry Washi paper.  This woodblock print is IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.  It is hard to find such a beautiful original Japanese woodblock print signed by the famous Sosaku Hanga woodblock print master Aoyama Masaharu (Seiji) in the public nowadays and it is definitely an incredible piece for collecting.
