Great Huge Original Japanese Woodblock Print Morita Kohei LIMIT# PENCIL SIGN Maple Maiko Water Mark
This is a Huge very beautiful, unique and LIMITED-NUMBER (90/150) original Japanese woodblock print masterpiece “Maple Maiko” from the series “Four Topics of Maiko” PENCIL SIGNED by the famous Showa Shin-Hanga woodblock print master Morita Kohei (1916-1994) made in 1970s bearing WATER MARK IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. This is an original woodblock print about 40 years old. This woodblock print is one of the core collection from a large number of Asian art and Japanese woodblock print collections in my family. Morita Kohei’s woodblock prints are very hard to find and are desperately searched by Japanese and European collectors. His information can be found from any search engine on Internet. His woodblock prints usually appraise at more than a thousand dollars. The size of this woodblock print is 22 ½ x 17 inches that is MUCH LARGER than the traditional Japanese woodblock prints. The artist’s PENCIL SIGNATURE is in the lower right part of the bottom border and his chop mark are at the lower left corner of the woodblock print. The LIMITED-NUMBER (90/150) is in the bottom border while the carver and Printer’s chop marks are in the lower left border and the title of this ORIGINAL woodblock print “Maple Maiko” and its series name “Four Topics of Maiko” are in the lower left border. There are two WATER MARKS in the lower left border corner. All four borders are intact. This original woodblock print is not attached to any backing paper or cardboard and strong ink bleeding can be seen through the back of the original Japanese Washi paper. This original woodblock is IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. It is hard to find an original Morita Kohei’s work of such a large size and beautiful scene in the public nowadays and it is definitely an incredible piece for collecting.
