This is a HUGE very beautiful and original LIMITED NUMBER(48/100) Japanese Shin Hanga woodblock print “Sumida River” PENCIL SIGNED by the famous Showa Shin Hanga woodblock master Motosugu Sugiyama (1925-) made in 1995 IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. This is an original woodblock print about 23 years old. This woodblock print is one of the core collections of a large number of gorgeous, different-styled Japanese woodblock print collections in my family, which we are gradually selling. Motosugu Sugiyama was born in Shizuoka prefecture about 200 km west of Tokyo. He was a businessman in Tokyo until he retired in 1995 to begin his career as an artist. At the age of 50 in 1975 Sugiyama became the student of Funasaka Yoshisuke to learn the art of woodblock prints. At the age of 80, Sugiyama's woodblocks have attracted international acclaim and a fast growing legion of collectors. The artist’s PENCIL SIGNATURE “M. Sugiyama”, the title of the print “Sumida River II” and the Limited Number “48/100” written in PENCIL and the date this print was published 1995 are in the bottom border.
