HUGE Japanese Woodblock Print Hashiguchi Goyo Crescent Moon in Kobe

$ 399.00

This is a HUGE, very beautiful and rare Japanese Shin Hanga woodblock print “Crescent Moon in Kobe” from the famous Shin-Hanga woodblock print artist Hashiguchi Goyo (1880-1921) published by the famous printmaker YuYuDo IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.  This woodblock print is one of the core collections of a large number of Asian art and Japanese woodblock print collections in my family and we are gradually selling them.  The same print was published in the book, “Shin-Hanga New Prints in Modern Japan” by Kendall Brown and Hollis Goodall-Cristante, Los-Angels County Museum of Art, 1996.  Information on Hashiguchi Goyo and the prices of his woodblock prints can be easily found on the Internet. Because Goyo died at age 41, he only made 14 woodblock prints in all his life, and most of them were destroyed by fire, weather and earthquake including the woodblocks.  Goyo was one of the most famous and gifted artists during the Taisho (1910-1925) Era in Japan. The artist’s signature, his chop mark, the title of the print “Crescent Moon in Kobe” and the date of the print “January Taisho 9 (1921)” are at the upper right corner of the print.  The YuYuDo publisher’s mark is in the lower left border . The carver and printer’s chop seals are in the lower right right border of the print.   The size is 19 1/4 x 12 1/2 inches, which is MUCH LARGER than the traditional Shin Hanga woodblock prints.  The colors, which are vivid and vibrant, are in layers. This woodblock print is not attached to any backing paper or cardboard and strong ink bleeding can be seen through the back of the original Japanese mulberry paper.  All four borders are intact.    As far as I can tell there are no defects, foxing or stains, this woodblock print is IN EXCELLENT CONDITIONIt is hard to find a Hashiguchi Goyo’s work in the public nowadays and it is definitely an incredible piece for collecting.  Any credit card, visa, master card, bank and post office money order, cashier check and personal check are accepted.  Personal checks will take about ten days to clear.  Texas residents need to pay 8.25% tax.  Shipping is $16 dollars anywhere in US via USPS priority mail with insurance and tracking.  International shipping charges are US$25 through airmail WITHOUT insurance, buyers will have to assume all the risks during the mailing.  We do combined shipping.  If more than one item is purchased at the same time, the highest shipping cost will be charged.
