Japanese Woodblock Print Hiroshige Sudden Shower in Ohahi Bridge and Atake Shimotani Seal Takamizawa Publisher
This is one of the most famous Japanese woodblock prints “Ohahi Bridge and Atake in Sudden Shower” from the famous Series “One Hundred Views of Famous Places in Edo” from the famous Edo artist Hiroshige Utagawa (1797-1858) with Shimotani Uoei seal published by famous printmaker Takamizawa IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. The exact same woodblock print is displayed in the book "Ukiyo-e 250 Years of Japanese Art” written by Roni Neuer and Susugu Yoshida and published by Mayflower Books USA 1979, page 320. This woodblock print is a part of a large number of gorgeous, different-styled Japanese woodblock print collections in my family. We are gradually selling them. The size of this woodblock print is 16 x 10 1/2 inches. The colors, which are vivid and vibrant, are in layers on the prints. The four borders (margins) of the woodblock print are intact. This print is not attached to any backing paper or cardboard and strong ink bleeding through can be seen from the back of the Japanese mulberry paper. The artist’s chop mark is at the lower left corner of the print. The Shimotani Uoei seal is in the lower left border. There are two more special censor seals in the top border. The publisher Takamizawa chop seal is in the back of this print. This woodblock print is IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. It is hard to find this kind of beautiful work from Hiroshige in the public nowadays and it is definitely an incredible piece for collecting.
