This is an original silkscreen print about 40 years old. This ORIGINAL print is from my family seven-decade Japanese woodblock prints and Asian Arts collections. We are gradually selling them. From Wikipedia, Masayuki Miyata (宮田 雅之, Miyata Masayuki) (1926–1997) was a very popular Japanese artist. In 1995 he was selected as the year's official artist for the United Nations. He created illustrations for modern publications of Japanese classic literature, including Oku no Hosomichi, the Tale of Genji, and Taketori Monogatari, the Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. Unfortunately, he passed away during the art exhibition trip to China in 1997. His artwork is very hard to acquire nowadays. The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter (Japanese: 竹取物語, Hepburn: Taketori Monogatari) is a monogatari (fictional prose narrative) containing elements of Japanese folklore. Written by an unknown author in the late 9th or early 10th century during the Heian period, it is considered the oldest surviving work in the monogatari form. The story details the life of Kaguya-hime, a princess from the Moon who is discovered as a baby inside the stalk of a glowing bamboo plant. After she grows, her beauty attracts five suitors seeking her hand in marriage, whom she turns away by challenging them each with an impossible task; she later attracts the affection of the Emperor of Japan. At the tale's end, Kaguya-hime reveals her celestial origins and returns to the Moon. The size of this original print is 21 1/2 x 18 inches, which is MUCH LARGER than the traditional Shin Hanga woodblock prints. The colors, which are vivid and vibrant, are in layers on the original Japanese Washi paper. The artist’s PENCIL SIGNATURE and his chop mark are at the right edge of the print bottom border while the limited number (175/300) is in the left edge of bottom border. This original print is not attached to any backing paper or cardboard and ink bleeding can be seen through the back of the original Japanese Mulberry paper. Four borders are intact. This ORIGINAL print is IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.
