Extra Large Japanese Woodblock Print Hashiguchi Goyo Snow at Kyoto Sanjo Bridge
This is an EXTRA LARGE, very beautiful, and rare Japanese woodblock Shin Hanga print “Snow at Kyoto Sanjo Bridge” signed by the famous Shin-Hanga woodblock print master Hashiguchi Goyo (1880-1921) published by the famous printmaker Danseisha bearing the ORIGINAL Danseisha publisher’s chop marks IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. This woodblock print is from my family seven-decade Japanese woodblock prints and Asian Arts collections.
The size of this woodblock print is 19 1/4 x 12 1/2 inches, whcih is MUCH LARGER than the traditional Japanese Shin Hanga woodblock prints. The colors, which are vivid and vibrant, are in layers. The artist’s signature, his chop mark, the title of the print “Snow at Kyoto Sanjo Bridge” and the chop marks of the publication date “January Taisho 9”, which is 1921, are at the lower right corner of the print. The Danseisha chop mark, the investigator chop mark, carver and printer’s chop marks are in the lower right border of the print. This woodblock print is not attached to any backing paper or cardboard and strong ink bleeding can be seen through the back of the original Japanese mulberry paper. All four borders are intact. This woodblock print is IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. Please examine the photos.
It is hard to find a Goyo's woodblock print of such a special scene in the public nowadays. This woodblock print is definitely an incredible piece for collecting.
